The Godfather is based on a novel which has the same name written by Mario Puzo. Vito Corleone is the infamous underworld boss of United State of America at that time. However, Michael - youngest son of Vito Corleone - do not want to involve to any businesses of the family after coming back from the second world war. However, Michael saw his father who is assassinated by the rival families. Fortunately, Vito still alive after the assassination. After breaking the second assassination to his father, Michael plan to make a revenge. From now on, Michael officially go in to the underworld. With the exciting and interesting plot as well as dangerous gun battles, the film takes the viewers to the world of violent crime through a mafia family of Italian American in New York city. The Godfather won three Oscars and is always among the best films of all time.
This is certainly a "must see" masterpiece. Watching The Godfather for the first time was the most marvelous movie experiences of my entire life. This movie is outstanding acting, excellent script, great casting, strong, and over the top directing. It is difficult to find a movie done this well, it is 44 years old and has aged as well. I think even if the viewers do not like mafia or underworld type of films, they will definitely enjoy the entire movie since the audiences are adhered to what will happen next as the film progresses logically. It is about, relationships, family, greed, loyalty, and real life. This is a clever combination, and the artistic style make the film memorable. The film is universally considered one of the best of all time, and the performances by Pacino and Brando alone is legendary. I give the Godfather 10 out of 10 scores.
In spite of the top of billing, the total screen time of Marlon Brando in the Godfather is less than one hour, which is less than a third of the film's running time.
Marlon Brando wanted to be more similar to Don Corleone, so in the audition, he filled his cheeks with cotton wool. For the real filming, he wore a special equipment made by a dentist. This equipment is displayed in the American Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York.
Marlon Brando did not remember most of his scripts, so during the most of his film he read from cue cards.
Mario Puzo said that the character of Johnny Fontane was not built on Frank Sinatra. However, many people believed it was, and Sinatra was extremely angry; when he met Puzzo at a restaurant, he yelled at Puzo with rude words and threats. The film was also violently opposed to by Frank Sinatra. Because of this problem, in the film Fontane's role was reduced to a couple of scenes.
